While any breed of dog can experience bloat, there are certain breeds that are at a higher risk of bloat due to their conformation. Dog breeds with a deep and narrow chest are at the highest risk of bloat. (Further, non-breed risk factors are covered in the articles entitled Dietary Risk Factors Associated With Dog Bloat and Non-Dietary Risk Factors Associated With Canine Bloat.)
The breed at the greatest risk of developing bloat is the Great Dane. In fact, the average likelihood of a Great Dane developing bloat during its lifetime is 42.4%. Breeds also at a high risk of GDV are: Weimaraner, St. Bernard, Standard Poodle, Irish Wolfhound, Irish Setter, Bloodhound, Akita, Rottweiler, and German Shepherd.  Other breeds with deep chests are also at an increased risk.
